Siri iPhone Application Controversy

Apple's iPhone launched its state-of-the-art voice software application, Siri, with fanfare and fireworks. Nevertheless, a measure of controversy rained on Apple's parade, as feminist groups complained about the fact that Siri will help users find prostitutes and where to buy Viagra, but it will not offer any information regarding abortion clinics.

Siri is an intelligent personal assistant that helps users with their daily tasks. All you need to do is ask Siri, and it will respond with very useful information. You may ask Siri about the weather in the Virgin Islands next week, or if there is a Mongolian Restaurant in your neck of the woods. Siri is even willing to tell you how late your favorite swingers bar will stay open on Christmas Eve. But, don't bother to ask Siri about directing you to an abortion clinic because it won't help you at all, All you will get is an “I didn't find any abortion clinics,” and then you will be left standing there – with your unwanted pregnancy – to fend on your own.

The American Civil Liberties made it very clear that they are very upset about the fact that this application can tell users where to buy Viagra and locate rifle shooting ranges, but not provide any information about contraceptives or abortion care. They quickly urged Apple - through a petition - to fix the moralistic bug as soon as possible.

On the other hand, renown anti-abortionist, Brandi Swindell, went on record as saying that she was absolutely thrilled about the fact that Siri is promoting “human rights in the womb.”

Apple reacted immediately to the controversy and assured its customer base that these omissions are not in any way intentional, and certainly not meant to offend anyone. It added that this application is still in the developing stage and that the politically incorrect apparatus will do better in the coming weeks.
