Iphone Software

The Iphone software is the same one used in other mobile devices such as the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, namely the iOS, formerly known as Iphone OS. The operating system was revealed with the iPhone on 2007, and released later that year. Originally, a separate name for the operating system was not specified. This software contains such features as a home screen, folders, and a notifications screen. The home screen shows application icons and a dock at the bottom where users can pin their most frequently used applications. The home screen comes every time the user switches on the device or presses the 'Home' button. The screen displays a status bar across the top to display data, such as time, battery level, and signal strength.

The applications of the iOS software can be divided into primary and secondary. The primary apps are the phone (telephone, FaceTime video calling), e-mail, a web browser and a portable media player. The secondary apps would be messages (text messaging, MMS, iMessage instant messaging), calendar, photo viewer, camera, video streamer, video calling, stock, maps, weather, voice recorder, note-taking program, newspaper and magazine store, to-do list application, clock (world clock, stopwatch, alarm clock and timer), calculator (regular and scientific), compass, address and phone book, and photo booth, among others.

Another feature of the iOS software is the game center, an online multiplayer social gaming network that allows users to invite friends to play a game, start a multiplayer game through matchmaking, keep track of their achievements, and compare high scores on a leader board. Users can sign in with a predetermined ID, but they may also create a unique nickname. Users can connect with friends, send friend requests, start playing games and start online multiplayer games from the homepage inside the game center application. Some games may include achievements, where completing a particular task will rewarded the player with points and a medal.
