Iphone Widgets

Iphone widgets are mini applications such as a clock, a calendar or a calculator that run a second layer over the operative system, without disrupting the Iphone application that is currently running. Widgets of all sorts can be downloaded from the internet, including Iphone games. After they have been installed, users need a widget executer to run the applications. This executer can be run from the home screen by tapping on an icon, or by assigning it to one of the available buttons. For instance, the widget menu can be activated by double pressing on the home button or pressing and holding the home button.

One such mini application is the weather widget. It provides all the necessary weather information on the Iphone's dashboard, including present weather conditions for any selected location, as well as notifications when severe weather alerts are in effect in that area. It may also include a regional radar map. Another example is the currency converter, which automatically updates exchange rates, supports almost all the world's traded currencies including the old legacy European currencies, multi currencies conversions, inverse conversion, math expression evaluation, multiple widget instances allowing to keep open more than a conversion table at a time, and a lot more.

There is also PEMDAS, a scientific calculator with a user friendly interface to perform calculations with equations and variables. PEMDAS lets the user switch from degrees to radians, and supports percentages, trigonometric, hyperbolic, and logarithmic/exponential functions. It allows to convert between hexadecimal, octal, binary, and decimal as well. PEMDAS can format the answer in scientific and engineering notation, and limit the amount of significant figures or decimal places displayed. These are just a few of the many Iphone widgets available, which do not take up too much memory space, and immediately provide the info that the user is looking for.
